Best of Paris Fashion Week:
Celine’s SS11 collection was haunting and ghostly, reminding one of the patients wandering corridors of long-forgotten asylums. At the very least, the smocks and tops were reminiscent of hospital wear, but with a very couture twist. Everything was soft, rounded edges, and heavy material. The collection had less shape and sophistication from previous collections, but it was still very mature – almost matronly. Where the collection was truly inspired was when Philo paired deep, oxblood leather pieces with bright blue tops and pants. The contrast of the colors and fabrics was delicious.
While most of the palette was classically white (a Celine signature) and very contained, there were a lot of flowing fabrics and large cut capes and blazers that looked quite comfortable. The printed silk pantsuits, jumpsuits, and matching tops and bottoms suggested easy assembly. These outfits took the guesswork out of getting dressed in the morning.
