Best of Paris Fashion Week
Chanel SS11
How does Karl Lagerfeld find the time to run his empire and create 87 pitch-perfect looks for his spring collection?
With his latest opus, Lagerfeld opens strong with jackets and trousers that stay true to classic Chanel shapes. What is striking about this collection isn’t its simple neutral palette, but rather, that he combines the perfect amount of dark and light. This collection is heiress-goth. It is luxurious enough to be coveted by every fashionista on the planet, yet dark enough to attract the macabre. There were a lot of standout pieces, and we favored the attention to luxe details. Some of the best items featured were the metallic rope necklaces, unfinished hems, feather embellishments, chunky platform sandals, studded jackets and pants, and the hat-shaped umbrella. Floral and abstract prints provided a pop of color in the collection, and kept the ensembles comfortable where they tended to swerve into the severe. This was one of the Kaiser’s best all-around collections in the past few years.
