Best of Paris Fashion Week

Dior SS11

It’s almost as if most designers got together and agreed to show severe, minimalist designs in sleek futuristic cuts, and John Galliano missed the meeting.

His collection for Dior was a grand departure from what everyone else was doing, but it was entirely in keeping with his playful attitude towards fashion. There was no shying away from the bright colors and patterns in this nautical and tropical collection, which definitely feels like Spring. Models came out bedecked with sailor hats at jaunty angles, aviator sunglasses, and necklaces that doubled as leis. The dominating outfits consisted of bright tropical prints, floral details and sailor-inspired pants and tops. This was a very fun, flirty collection that, in the approaching grey winter months, makes one pine already for the sunshine we so recently left behind. As most collections do, this one went from simple to luxurious. The last ten designs are some of the best; the models look like ripe, plumed birds displaying their feathers during mating season.
