Giambattista Valli SS11
Ever since he debuted his first collection in 2005, Giambattista Valli has favored polished clothing. In this collection, he focuses his immense talents on providing pieces for a younger generation of jet-setting glamour girls.
It is clear that the 70s had captivated his inspiration for this collection because the show just radiated Mod. The rounded edges of his tops signified a move toward the futuristic, and the marriage of futuristic and Mod was a wild success.
Punches of neon accentuated neutral clothing. Thus the neutral, two-dimensional clothing came alive with chiffon drape accents and bright colors. Valli played with other elements for his collection: a beige feather cape nearly stole the show, but there were also mixed fabrics and patterns, leopard-print ensembles, and adorable cuffed flats to steal away our attention as well.
What was so pleasing about the collection is that the outfits weren’t predictable. If your eye starts at the top of a picture, you would think. “That’s a cute little shift dress.” Only, when your eye lands at the bottom of the dress you would realize that the dress has been cut away and replaced with an embroidered lace panel. These are outfits that are not easily summarized and dismissed.
