Best of Paris Fashion Week
Givenchy SS11
Givenchy’s collections have always had a hint of darkness to them. While this collection stayed true to its essential darkness, it also played with the light. Layers of chiffon brought refreshing contrast to heavier fabrics, and sheer fabric pants lightened dreary tops.
Award Givenchy the statue for Best Use of Zippers this season, because zippers were everywherein this collection. They were on tops and bottoms, up the middle and side-to-side. Leopard-print was also in full swing, as well as a healthy dose of liquid- looking leather. This collection came across as strong and masculine, and some of the outfits are reminiscent of Christina Aguilera’s ensembles in the late 90s. Still, it was in keeping with the house’s design aesthetic. When you think Givenchy you think dark and strong. This collection was no different.
