Paris Fashion Week Highlights
VIDEO: Dries Van Noten SS11
The models on the DVN runway looked like they were spies, rushing to a clandestine meeting while bedecked in Van Noten’s finest. The boyfriend jacket, sunglasses, and hands found tucked in pockets conveyed an air of mystery and allure around the collection.
Van Noten is renowned for designing around fabrics first. His philosophy is that individual personality should be impressed upon the clothing by the wearer. He creates wearable, comfortable collections that use a range of luscious fabrics. For this collection he favored silks and jerseys, in monochromatic tones. There were a few digitally silk-screened floral pieces that broke up the march of solid shades. Van Noten keeps in mind that spring requires light fabrics and light colors. His collection was full of them. He also heavily favored jackets, trenches and blazers for spring, which lent the collection a strong menswear elegance.
