Best of London Fashion Week

Temperley London FW11

by Grace Gordon

Sit up and take notice because Temperley London’s FW11 collection is not for the bored or boring. This outrageously stunning collection gets the heart pounding, utilizing the upper limits of feminine power and a frank presentation of sex. Expect to see a lot of layered ruffles tempered with acres of leather and bondage-style details for a titillating show.

This collection opens with a ruffled capelet, sweet polka dot print tights, and a silk skirt that would have been darling and retro if it weren’t for the elbow length black gloves that gave it a distinctively fetishistic feel. The pleated skirts in this collection glowed – from monochrome shades of the palest peach to complicated repeating prints. But it was the racy looks that were the best. A lampshade bust was paired with a skin-tight silk dress for a little bit of flapper-meets-Senorita appeal. Big ruffled shoulders created upside down triangle silhouettes. Body-conscious dresses, befitting the Jessica Rabbit types in the crowd, sing the siren song of the runway. Silk, lace and lots of sheer beckon you to step into the boudoir of Marlene Dietrich. This collection does have a softer side. Starburst prints trip prettily across girlish blouses and frocks.

Deck yourself out in vintage-inspired finery, but don’t forget to channel your sex kitten attitude into your wardrobe. Even though Temperley London’s collection isn’t for the timid or shy, its radiant beauty can appeal to all style types.
