Prabal Gurung FW11
by Grace Gordon
On the runway, a strong opener is usually the sign of good things to come. This season, Prabal Gurung stunned the audience by opening with Karlie Kloss in a breathtaking one-shoulder red dress. It was all uphill from there. This season, Gurung takes the “good girl” and turns her into a vivacious vixen.
Gurung offers one knock-out look after the other. Each look is special enough to deserve a mention, but in the interest of brevity we’ll discuss our favorites. First, Rorschach-ian abstract black-and-white prints meet a bold band of red that at first glance looks like a belt, but is instead a slash of color painted straight onto the clothes. A grey ombre dress that fades at the bottom is covered in ruffles and intertwining rows of subdued sequins. A silver and gold fully-sequined number deconstructs towards the hem for a look that is wildly undone. A shaggy fur knee-length coat keeps its polish when paired with a black leather bow belt and wispy black dress. The collection also featured bold sleeves, gorgeous abstract prints, glitter pants, and billowy skirts. Elbow-length leather gloves, cut-out tights, gladiator gloves (with a sash that ties up the wrist), and platform heels are the breakout accessories from the show. We love this wickedly glamorous collection, especially because it allows us to unleash our inner coquette.
