Best of New York Fashion Week
Reed Krakoff FW11
by Grace Gordon
Reed Krakoff might be a relative newcomer to the fashion scene, but he shows his couturier skills to great aplomb this season. With looks that were controlled and precise, Krakoff showed an unpredictable collection.
The laws of clean lines and minimalism abounded, except when Krakoff showed silk. The silk ensembles were breezy and light, with lots of drape and movement. Confining the rest of the looks to basic silhouettes, roomy shoulders, boxy blunt cuts, and masculine lines worked in his favor this season. There were some nubby knits in the mix, along with some chubby fur coats. Other outerwear pieces were structured suede pieces with shiny leather paneling details, a puffy leather bomber jacket, and some oversized blazers. This was a tasteful collection that streamlined luxury into cozy, wearable shapes. Quietly elegant, this collection offers upscale allure to the woman who wants style in spades without all the fuss.
