Yigal Azrouel FW11
by Grace Gordon
The menswear influence is so dominant for FW11 that even classic cocktail dress designers like Yigal Azrouël have turned to it for their latest collections. Yet, to focus on this rather obvious aspect is to overlook the brilliant architecture and art of the clothes themselves.
The first look, a jacquard textured collar coat over oxford button-up, black tie, mustard vest and Klein blue cropped trousers (the trousers were an artistic statement in and of themselves) cut a striking abstract figure reminiscent of the works of Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg. The following looks paired dandy schoolboy neutral ensembles with bright shots of cobalt blue, peach, forest green, aquamarine and pink. Each outfit followed an exquisite structured outline that captured the realms of both tomboyish silhouettes and feminine form. This versatile collection of cropped trousers, tuxedo jackets, sweet day dresses, and retro gowns will take you easily from office to cocktail party, day to night, and fall to spring.
