Aquascutum Spring 2012
While show notes state that Aquascutum’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection is derived from a blend of “punk” and “heritage”, we’d beg to differ. Punk is so anti-anti that it would refuse to blend with these crisp, office-appropriate looks. Punk doesn’t play nice with preppy. A bit of PVC isn’t punk, but you could call it neo-punk in an equivocal sort of way.
Instead of punk, we’d say that these rakish, androgynous outfits (even if they do have a tiny bit of fetishistic sex appeal) are more along the lines of what the best dressed girl in the office is going to wear to work every day. There are some miraculously cool outerwear pieces like the posh mac, the silk trench, and the slick cagoule. There are simple dresses, free-floating suits made of chiffon/silk blend fabrics, and tweedy blazers. In summation, this is a clean, well-executed collection that combines a breezy attitude with refined daywear. Although, it’s definitely not Punk.
