London Fashion Week Coverage

Holly Fulton Spring 2012

Holly Fulton aims for maximum impact, and that’s just what she accomplished on her SS12 catwalk. This designer favors mega-doses of kitsch – utilized in the hippest ways possible. Bright, punchy prints marched along mod dresses, floor-scraping trousers, cropped jackets, and trim swimsuits. One gets the distinct feeling that Fulton had a lot of fun putting this collection together.

The one common thread with all of the looks is that they were LOUD. Big bursts of color, tribal patterns, and zesty zebra prints transmitted “look at me” pulses of histrionics. Coral branches climbed up leather skirts, while tropical prints tripped fancifully across dresses and hems. Fulton had a very specific woman in mind when designing this collection: one that would squander her St. Tropez vacation money on shopping and be relegated to a tacky holiday at Margate. One can easily imagine Edie and Patsy of Absolutely Fabulous eschewing their beloved Lacroix for an entire collection of Fulton in the present day.
