London Fashion Week Coverage
John Rocha Spring 2012
John Rocha’s latest is probably going to be a divisive collection: you’ll either love it or you’ll hate it. There’s no “meh” factor when the presentation is so extreme. With giant antennae jutting out of their hair, exaggerated braids, and halos of looped wire finishing it all off, the models on the Rocha runway looked extraterrestrial, or even insect-like.
Unusual hair accessories aside, the clothing was rich and dark. The opening looks resembled piles of truffle shavings with the unfinished layers and ruffles that mounted one on top of the other. Rocha lightened up with a creamy, blocky dress covered in rosettes, which was shown a second way blended with a swirl of tulle. The only misfire on the Rocha runway was the shoes. The dresses were simply too heavy on top to look good when paired with such thick-soled shoes. Rocha ended the show with a line-up of simple, lithe black dresses – a strong finish to an unusual and beautiful show.
