Matthew Williamson Spring 2012
Here’s why the Matthew Williamson show was good: it was well-styled. If you’ve ever seen a questionably styled show where you’re left wondering ‘Why that top with those trousers?’ or ‘Why those shoes with that dress?’, the Williamson show will reassure you because he gets it right. Here’s why the Matthew Williamson show was great: Every look was Perfect (and we don’t dole out that capital “P” to just anyone).
Sometimes, you just want a designer to leave well enough alone after they’ve rehashed a boring look one too many times. You never get that feeling with Williamson. You just want him to keep going. This tightly edited collection showed 36 looks that paired juicy brights with neutrals, sexy minidresses with wallpaper kitsch print, dark fleur-de-lis with metallic leather vests, and delicate, artful touches to pantsuits, caftans and dresses. This collection was beautiful, interesting, and creative, which is just about the highest praise any successful designer can receive from a job well done.
