London Fashion Week Coverage
Osman Spring 2012
Look closely at the clothes on the Osman runway and you’ll notice a hint of subversive sexuality in the tiny slits that decorated waists, necklines, and trouser bottoms. The slits allowed for a peek of flesh in unexpected places. It was this constant turning to the unexpected that made Osman’s runway refreshing. It transmitted a clear message of spring and refinement, but with an almost tongue-in-cheek sensuality.
Osman relied on a draping and folding technique that blended a sophisticated silhouette with origami techniques. There were a few stark prints that made their way down the runway that closely resembled archaic cave wall scrawls. Stovepipe trousers were loosened up with slits at the ankle, while layering and peplum added a dash of class to the collection. Osman’s minimalist palette and variety of techniques made this a good example of bringing versatility to what appears on the surface to be rather simple.
