London Fashion Week Coverage

Peter Pilotto Spring 2012

The jungle floor teems with life, containing a majority of the world’s species. The Peter Pilotto runway put a macro lens on the tropical concept, and came away with a collection as visually stunning, colorful, and fascinating as an episode of Planet Earth.

Thankfully, these tropical prints read “exotic” instead of “tribal”. With flourishes that ranged from the iridescent rainbow shimmer of gecko skin, to hash marks and lines that were so precise and repetitive as to appear reptilian, the influence of Mother Nature was everywhere. Tight minidresses are the canvas on which the Pilotto team paints an otherworldly variety of flowers, shapes, and shades of rainforest richness. One particular look conjures the image of insects with straps serrated by a feathery print that resembles moth antennae. The final dress came with a cocoon-like skirt tail that opens in the front, framing the model’s legs.
