London Fashion Week Coverage

Pringle of Scotland Spring 2012

All eyes were on the Pringle of Scotland runway at London Fashion Week because everyone loves to see what a newcomer will come up with. Allistair Carr is not exactly a newcomer to fashion design, but this is his first full collection for Pringle of Scotland, and he has 200 years of design to contend with at this well-established brand. Carr turned in a very solid collection of Pringle’s own argyle-printed pieces, cozy knitwear, and loose sweaters – but with a bit of a subversive twist.

This collection ultimately comes off as preppy, even with the trompe l'oeil sweaters that appeared to have a plunging scallop-trimmed v-neck collars, but were actually paneled with nude fabric up to the neck. There were workwear-appropriate button-ups and sleek, lined trenches offered up for Spring. Best of all was a capsule set of chic dresses that came with asymmetrical manifold layers that rested beautifully on top of each other. For a designer who’s never worked with knitwear before, this collection is expertly imprinted with the Pringle DNA.
