London Fashion Week Coverage

Antonio Berardi Fall 2012

Antonio Berardi exacts a razor-sharp vision on the Fall/Winter 2012 runway, accomplished by a Vulcan-like logic and rigorous mathematical precision. The clothes were all curvy graphic lines, and strict structure. Inspired by the sculptor Giacomo Serpotta, Berardi is able to translate the lively rococo dimensions of Serpotta’s sculptures into eye-popping 3D looks.

A tiered gray dress opens the show, and even though it is crisp and unfussy, it is still one of the softest looks in the show. Floor-length gowns with peplum detail at the hip provide long plains of shocking red that act as a searing background for neutral outerwear. Monochrome tomboyish suits flesh out this mostly dresses-and-outerwear collection. A teal and dark gold jacket, paneled together with those curving seams, was one of the best looks in the show. This dense and enticing collection was a knock-out. We want Berardi’s glittering, stark futurism to walk right off the screen and into our closets.
