Christopher Kane Fall 2012
The ever-esoteric Christopher Kane has outdone even his previous high reaches to a new plain of scandalous allure. Citing Pacino’s controversial film Cruising as the macabre influence behind this collection, Kane proceeds to show looks that evoke nights of terror and intrigue. A wide purple runway made for a lonely walk for the models and threw the darkness of the outfits even deeper into the shadows.
Drop waists, paper-bag skirts and Asian-influenced separates were pulled and stretched into longer, droopier silhouettes. The fabrics shone with a gleaming brilliance and came in a variety of bruise-colored hues. Even the brighter colors on this runway had a sickly look to them. Bonded leather accents fetishized several of the more grown-up ensembles shown toward the end of the collection. We like it when Kane goes to the Dark Side, but we wonder if the Force is strong enough to bring us along with him.
