London Fashion Week Coverage

Emilio de la Morena Fall 2012

After a feather-light frothy Spring show, Emilio de la Morena succumbs to the call of the dark side for Fall/Winter 2012. This weighty collection adds layers of heavy fabric, protective outerwear, and a moody palette of black, maroon, and dusky teal to his style repertoire.

A jacket blends into a funereal head covering for a somber start to the show. The following looks are a little lighter, but still stay on the shadowy side of the design court. Slim trousers, leather pants, and dresses featuring contrasting color block panels helped to hold this collection together. With loose hair and little makeup, the models on the de la Morena runway look frail and world-weary, their clothes a comforting wall against the chattering, ceaseless onslaught of the outside world. This presentation seems to come from a quiet, thoughtful place. Though de la Morena’s new direction was unexpected, it was not unwelcomed.
