London Fashion Week Coverage
Issa Fall 2012
A swirling array of patterns trotted down the Issa runway for Fall/Winter 2012, most of which came in colors so vivid they nearly sear the retina. And we’re not talking about a brightly patterned dress; we’re talking the whole outfit in the same matching pattern. The effects were a little bit dizzying, but it was hard not to sit up and take notice of something so attention-demanding. With a Trans-Siberian journey as the inspiration for this collection, it’s easy to see that the clothes themselves outshine the countryside between Moscow and Beijing.
Kimono-inspired dresses, intarsia knit sweaters, and fur caps initially launch the show, fleshing out the beginning of the journey in Moscow with the end journey in Beijing. However, the Asian and Russian theme melts away, and the bright patterns disappear. In their place stand brightly colored dresses and capes (some with brocade embroidery) that offer a solid counterpoint to all the kaleidoscopic prints. And then there are flapper dresses. They’re actually very cute and flirty with fringy skirts and decorated bodices, and mint green liquid silk frocks trimmed in fur follow them quickly. This is a fast-shifting collection that moves rapidly from one look to the next, much like the scenic countryside during a long train ride across the planet.
