London Fashion Week Coverage
Mulberry Fall 2012
There’s a lot of glitz and glamour to a Mulberry Fashion Week show – the brand spares no expense in bringing in the A-list celebrities and piping in whimsical fun distractions prior to and after the show. Even their wink to rising star Lana Del Rey is calculated. But, there’s nothing forced about it, because Mulberry delivers on the entertainment as well as the fashion. It is a rare brand that can inhabit both spheres.
This season’s influence of Where the Wild Things Are is a bit of a throwback, but the clothes are fresh and even a little edgy. Shaggy fur coats and citrus-colored outfits launch the show, and then the hues get a little more complex in the form of ombre-dyed fur outerwear. More color creeps into this collection, until a rainbow cannon of it is scattershot across the middle looks in a floral abstract print. Texture stacks on texture as silks and knits are cobbled together in cozy layers. Mulberry’s strengths this season are its outerwear and accessories. A Mulberry girl swaddled in these clothes can brave the British weather with a smile.
