London Fashion Week Coverage

Mulberry Spring 2012

The lead up to the Mulberry show was almost as good as the show itself. Mulberry went all out this season in celebration of their 40th birthday. There was tea and scones with Emma Hill at the opening of their Soho store in New York City, rooftop parties, celebrities galore, and then it got even more festive. Walking into the Mulberry show, one was greeted by seaside décor, balloons, ice cream trucks, and tiny dogs frolicking in Mulberry-made outfits. The whimsical ambience made everyone feel relaxed. It was one Fashion Week show that was truly fun.

Conjuring up a British seaside is no easy task, especially since a typical scene would realistically include gray skies, damp air, and blustery weather. The models were sent down the runway in messy hair, perhaps as a nod to the actual climate of England’s coastal resorts. Cheery slickers and cozy anoraks acted as on-message toppers for a cavalcade of casually hip clothes. Candy stripes and floral prints sprinkled the blouses and dresses, spurning on a feeling of youthful exuberance. This It Girl style was underscored by the presence of front-row spotlight stealers like Kate Moss and Kristen Stewart, who nodded enthusiastically to the more avant-garde pieces.
