London Fashion Week Coverage

Peter Pilotto Fall 2012

If word count weren’t an issue, there would be just one word to describe the Peter Pilotto Fall/Winter 2012 collection from London Fashion Week: extraordinary. That’s all that needs to be said. It’s one of those collections that’s so whisper perfect that if you describe it too hard, it might all crumble away like a dream.

This collection balances a reminder of Pilotto’s past design successes with a clear vision of the future. Early looks were reminiscent of some of Pilotto’s and De Vos’ hit looks, but the oil slick sheen of the prints came out on dramatic puffy coats and slim, body conscious dresses. The colors used in the first portion of this collection easily recall the dark beauty of a rainforest floor with its iridescent metallic blue wasps and rare birds of Paradise. Then, a sea of change occurs. The same tight silhouettes and strappy gowns are paired with dip-dyed fur pieces running down their fronts – dyes that come in every color of the rainbow. The prints change to versions of Japanese light trucks and Chinese opera masks – though they don’t seem very “Asian-inspired” when Pilotto gets ahold of them. These looks aren’t merely vibrant, they positively hum with life.
