London Fashion Week Coverage
Unique Fall 2012
Here is where Topshop Unique finally hits their stride. After a messy show last season that skewed too youthful to be high on retailers’ lists, this sophisticated, military-influenced collection is a stentorian march in the right direction. There are plenty of fastidious, crisp looks here, but they are met with their opposite in languid, low-slung trousers and oversized coats.
Unique showed a strong outerwear-heavy presentation that incorporated some of the shearling wool and glossy leather we’ve seen elsewhere on the London runways. Their take blended countrified wool jackets with leather bib dresses and wrinkled trousers. Drop-waist hems, low pockets, and billowy tops were the hipster edge in this show. However, it was the rust orange silk shorts and pencil skirt that ticked all the right boxes. Kate Phelan would be wise to springboard from this savvy collection into something equally fresh for spring.
