Milan Fashion Week Coverage

Iceberg Spring 2012

Paolo Gerani may have been influenced by Charlotte Rampling when putting together his Spring/Summer 2012 collection, but he seems to have put Louise Brooks on everything. Well, not everything, but the 20s-era gamine appears in an oversized graphic print on several garments in this collection. While Brooks and Rampling fight it out, so do the womenswear and menswear influence. This is a collection of contrasts, but they work well together.

The first look is more masculine and strong, featuring a choker that spiderwebs its way up the model’s throat. Most of the looks come in black and white and radiate a subdued, strong sexuality. Strategically placed opaque stripes on a sheer top suggest naughtiness while at the same time covering up appropriately. Trousers, pencil skirts and overly long tuxedo blazers channel the menswear trend. And then, suddenly, the runway lightens up as it blooms in an array of contrasting floral prints. This collection featured a sharp take on some of spring’s dominant trends, and its key pieces are sure to be crowd favorites come next season.
