Missoni Spring 2012
Missoni lays it on thick for Spring/Summer 2012… literally. This collection was draped, folded, tucked, layered, fringed and ruffled – and sometimes, all at once! There was a dizzying aspect to some of these looks as one-shoulder asymmetrical collars led to sheer-paneled bodices, and flowing skirts covered in fringe, knit, and ruffles. However, this was a cheerful, warm-weather collection that was high-concept. Straying from the staid Missoni look works well when their client base is happily sated.
However, there are some looks here, especially the shredded, haphazard dress (can we call it a dress), that prompts the question, “How does on put that on?” It must have been a nightmare cramming this onto the model backstage in the middle of the show. The flamenco and Caribbean influence evoked some lovely tropical images. However, using words like “tropical” or “zebra print” – both of which technically apply to this collection – doesn’t really get to the heart of the looks because this is tropical and zebra print like they’ve never been done before. Typical descriptors will not do this collection justice. This is one that has to be seen to be believed.
