Milan Fashion Week Coverage
N°21 Spring 2012
Alessandro Dell'Acqua’s signature No. 21 showed on the opening day of Milan Fashion Week to fanfare, and a few raised eyebrows. The collection worked coherently on the basis of some big themes for Spring – prints, sackcloth skirts, and paillettes – but something was lost in translation when it came to the nude Polynesian girl prints.
However, there were many looks in this collection that were classic “Italian woman”: strong, glamorous, and sexy. The lingerie-like silk dresses, elbow-length gloves, and the plaid pencil skirts were examples of Italian finery. There was also a tomboyish feeling to the collection when pantsuits in both solids and prints were shown over collared shirts and paired with ribbon thin belts. No. 21’s best looks, however, were the electrocuted shards of pointy fringe that layered the first look and one of the lasts. These were curious yet well-done pieces that brought this collection to the level of covetable couture.
