Alexander Wang Spring 2012
If this spring collection by Alexander Wang looks completely different than his spring collection for 2011, you’ve been paying attention. This is a major departure from his nearly-all-white SS11 show, but the departure is a welcomed one. Wang, seemingly unencumbered by expectations, has embraced his role as fashion’s street style guru. This collection is tough, sporty, and sure to be a hit with the youth crew.
The looks here are rather severe for spring athleticwear. The tough tops and pants, dresses, and skiwear ensembles are protective in a way that’s meant to ward off the elements and the unwanted advances. Think of it is as cool street style armor. The velvet one-piece dress should look soft – seeing as how it’s made of velvet – but the extra bulky pockets and punchy cut give off a “don’t mess with me” vibe. Though this could easily stray into masculine territory, Wang keeps the look feminine, but feminine at its fiercest.
