New York Fashion Week Coverage
Altuzarra Spring 2012
Following on the heels of a commercially successful fall collection, Altuzarra has opted for a little more of the same. On the SS12 runways, he dives into a montage of black and white ensembles that are sporty and fresh, and then trots us into Jimmy Buffet territory. We followed reluctantly, but Altuzarra’s Hawaiian print ensembles were actually stunning when paired with slick black outerwear and leather pencil skirts.
There’s something reminiscent of the 90s here. It’s not grunge and it’s not slacker gear, but it’s something in the way the outfits are put together – with an eye for mixing and matching that which should not go together – that is a relatively 90s style of dress. With these modern prints, sharp tailoring, and a show imbued with a sense of dominant female strength, this collection oozes consumer appeal (though we’re still not sold on that print jumpsuit).
