New York Fashion Week Coverage

DKNY Spring 2012

DKNY could be considered one of the most recognizably “New York” brands in the business, if not only for the fact that the brand literally has the words “New York” in the name. Set against a taxicab backdrop, Donna Karan takes New York street style literally this season as she sends her models in all their finery down a fictional Manhattan sidewalk.

DKNY’s SS12 collection takes all the guesswork out of getting dressed with its head-to-toe approach to spring/summer style. A parade of black-and-white outfits led the pack with black sunhats, black jackets with white lining, and flowing black or white tops and skirts. You can mix and match these and still achieve the same effect: effortless NYC cool. Karan then shows electric blue and red prints and stripes, and from hats to shoes the searing bright of this look provides full coverage. Her best looks come later in nude, red, and pink oversized cover-ups that ripple in the breeze – and are generously cut to appeal to all sizes of women. While there’s nothing fanciful or high-concept here, this is a wearable SS12 collection that provides functional and rich clothing options in the face of adversarial city living.
