New York Fashion Week Coverage

Hervé Léger by Max Azria Spring 2012

In the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s song Warrior, Karen O sings, “Men, they like me, ‘cause I’m a warrior, a warrior.” The Herve Leger SS12 collection is the kind of outfit Karen needs to wear when she sings this song in concert. This is Spartan, sexy dressing at its most jawdropping, and Max and Lubov Azria are responsible. They know that men like warrior women, and this lithe, sinuous collection is hot enough to get anyone’s blood pumping.

On the Herve Leger runway, a constrained silhouette hugged the model’s figures, and metallic fabrics accentuated their curves. Details like tiny rows of beading and braided harnesses provide a fetishistic touchstone for the collection. Whether or not Max and Lubov are preparing women for a certain anti-utopian future, looking to a tribal past, or just playing to male fantasy is unclear. Regardless of intent, this is a drop-dead sexy collection that accomplishes little else than making women look ferociously good.
