New York Fashion Week Coverage
Marchesa Spring 2012
Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa must live for the gasps they induce from the audience, as they regularly turn out some of the most dazzlingly beautiful collections of Fashion Week. If your eyes have been starved of beauty, click through this collection for nourishment.
Each dress deserves its own paragraph of prose, but general descriptions will have to suffice. For SS12, Marchesa intensifies their stronghold on Oscar-worthy gowns with a collection of magnificent, regal, and creative dresses – each more lovely than the next. It starts with tiers of shimmering fringe worn by ethereally beautiful Karen Elson. Diaphanous gowns shimmer under wispy see-through overlays. Folded organza busts sit atop micro-layered bodices that flare and flow. One dress is made entirely of ropes of fringe, which might be quite a pain to shimmy into but it’s worth it for the sheer sex appeal. Dramatic feathers, bunches of tulle, dazzling sequins, shelves of ruffles, and miles of lace ripple across the runway, applied almost haphazardly to give each dress an entirely unique look. This collection deserves your attention if only because it is truly lovely.
