New York Fashion Week Coverage
Tibi Spring 2012
Toward the end of Fashion Week in New York, key trends crystallize and dominate. This season nearly every show (even de la Renta) has skewed younger than normal, with lots of street style inspiration, modern sportswear, and pretty prints. Tibi, never one to remove their finger from the pulsing epicenter of fashion’s heartbeat, produced one of the better modern sportswear collections that we’ve seen at MBFW.
Tibi designer Amy Smilovic latest creations are based on her personal style values: “easy to wear, looks rich, and is functional.” The low-slung elegance of this collection is best captured by the loose wide-leg trousers, slouchy jackets, and flowing dresses in spring’s best sorbet shades. The modern feeling is sewn up by two contrasting ideals: 1) plain, unembellished ease, and 2) Curlique prints that looked almost accidental, like an afterthought. This cool, airy collection imparts a feeling of practiced style to the wearer and the confidence to mix and match the jackets, dresses, Bermuda shorts, and boxy blouses like a practiced professional.
