New York Fashion Week Coverage

Rag & Bone Fall 2012

Rag & Bone is not the only label layering up for Fall/Winter 2012, but so far, they’re the ones who are doing this look the best. Though the show notes told of an East meets West story, citing influences from India and England, this came through only in the most subtle way.

Nubby knits were contrasted against slick, shiny metallic jackets, while mixed prints gave a dizzying “Magic Eye” feel to the collection. The layers were ostentatious, from turtlenecks underneath wrap dresses to blouses, blazers, and coats worn all together in one outfit. The star of the show here is the toppers, which provided literal dimensionality and structure to free-flowing outfits. Rag & Bone designs for the modern, urban woman, and this sense comes across clearly. The models’ hair was windblown and their pace was swift. They were a little hurried, as if they were rushing to work on a blustery day instead of strutting the catwalk. For a woman in her element, facing the elements in these clothes would be a pleasure.
