Zac Posen Fall 2012
Zac Posen strikes one as the type to understand that we are all the architects of our own dramatic lives. He lets us live these dramas out in the costumes we need; or as he explains his current focus: “occasion dressing”. The thesis of this collection is both a nod to 1950s Japanese styles and a wink to gala events. Though, with modernized Posen touches, it translates very much into a Yokuza boss’s wife out on the prowl.
The Japanese theme rings through via the patterned silks and geisha robe cuts of the outfits. Though the outfits are very tightly tailored, they still seem mutable. The framework of Posen’s necklines gives a thrilling edge to these elegant ensembles. Opera robes and kimono jackets are the Eastern counterpoint to the Western ball gowns and dramatic frocks that closed the show. Who wouldn’t want to inhabit the world that Posen dresses us for?
