Hermès Spring 2012
Christopher Lemaire’s debut collection for Hermès last season had him showing his plumage, regaling audiences with an ostentatious collection that proved the power of Hermès in full sportif mode. This season, Lemaire scaled back, and wisely too – as it seems that minimalist efforts suit him best. This collection was peacefully and masterfully assembled from linen basics to suede multi-layered looks. It followed a strategic and clear plot: monastic white melted into rich saffron and tangelos which led to soft jewel tones and color block prints in more exotic arrangements.
Loose white dresses clung to the models as they came down the runway with their hair underneath luminous white handkerchiefs evoking the picture of nuns high in the Alps. The collection became worldlier, and the looks spanned the globe and history from traditional Native America to present day Morocco. Lemaire still pointed some of the key pieces towards the quiet power of quality Hermès tailored luxury goods by supplying patrons with gorgeous leather jackets and breathtaking sleeveless suede dusters. Lemaire stays true to the heritage of the house, while striking a rich vein of new looks that will resuscitate the brand.
