Kenzo Spring 2012
If Kenzo’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection surprises you for its beguiling, convivial, graphic outfits in a palette of satisfyingly rich primary colors, it may be because the label has been taken over by an unlikely duo. Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, formerly of retail darling Opening Ceremony, are arbiters of extreme cool. Leon and Lim take their signature coolness and imbue the Kenzo label with it until this collection is positively dripping with it. No, wait. Kenzo’s not just cool. It’s subzero.
The flying nun lapels, honeycomb prints, boater hats, fringe purses, ripply ruffle gowns, boxy jackets, peep-toe sack heels, bird printed skirts and dresses, sporty separates, and cornflower blue jumpsuits are all equally desirable. Leon and Lim are experts with proportions, balancing top-heavy, linear jackets with sexy shorts or slim tops with billowing genie pants. This collection is really rounded out by all of the festive accessories on parade, but it was the hats and shoes that stole the show. For the pieces every hip, young style slinger will be sporting next season, look to Kenzo.
