Paris Fashion Week Coverage

Loewe Spring 2012

Unique art inspiration can be hard to find nowadays, but Stuart Vevers at Loewe found his in MC Escher. Seventy-five years after Escher’s trip to Alhambra, some of his signature designs are celebrated on the Loewe runway in the form of lizard cut-outs and tiled Chevron patterns. What Vever brings to the Escher geometry is an added dimension of texture. This is one of the most exquisitely textured collections of Paris Fashion Week, hitting all the major tactile textiles such as suede, velvet, perforated leather, sateen, silk, lace, and gold-dipped leather.

The leather lizard cut-out blazer and vest were Beg, Borrow, and Steal worthy, as were the Chevron shift dresses. Though this is ultimately a “good girl” collection, there were a few vixenish pieces in the mix like the slinky, glittery gold dress with mandarin collar, and the tightly tailored velvet jackets. Loewe’s handbags are especially promising, which is excellent news given their reputation as quality handbag makers. Hopefully those double-strap peep-toe mules will make it onto Loewe shelves as well, though they were a heavy-soled option for Spring.
