Louis Vuitton Spring 2012
Marc Jacobs’ (possibly final) collection for Louis Vuitton could easily read as his Curriculum Vitae in application to the position as head of Dior. This unmistakable nod to the New Look included sweet suit separates aplenty. The attire from Louis Vuitton for Spring/Summer 2012 is the angelic younger sister to last season’s dark, oversexed vixen.
If he’s vying for the gig, they’d be lunatic not to give it to him. This collection had Jacob’s twist on Galliano craziness written all over it. The functioning carousel? Modern Jacobs. The clothes? Modern Dior. This fusion will absolutely create the dynamic team that Dior is seeking for the future of their brand. The show is infused by a 60s vibe by a grid of perforated daisy flowers that showed up on nearly every look. This sumptuous lattice-work was but one of the beautifully executed details on the Vuitton runway. Prim collars, distended appliqués, frizzy mohair, polka dots, oversized buttons, precise cut-outs, and much more were available at the behest of Marc Jacobs’ determined vision. Kate Moss was the show closer, and she pranced off that carousel like the coquettish gamine that she is. Stalking down the runway, Moss flirted with the cameras in an embellished, exaggerated babydoll silhouette. This was the clearest example of Jacobs’ statement this season: “After the hardness of Fall, we wanted something gentle and kind, fragile but strong, too.”
