Miu Miu Spring 2012
Lately, Miu Miu can’t escape the Prada imprint, and why should it? There’s no reason this unfussier cousin to a much bigger label shouldn’t have the couture influence seep into its pores. Miu Miu consistently turns out amazing bags and shoes, but it’s the clothes that should be the real benchmark of success, right? So, if Miuccia tangles with some higher concept looks, it’s for the better. Miu Miu has matured into a label that’s sought by fashion lovers of all stripes. This season, the folkloric quilting, blunt lace details, and expanded silhouette brought a richness and depth to the brand.
Miu Miu made good use of a particular shade of blue that mimics the summer sky at dusk, appropriately called dusky blue. Rose and oxblood offset the neutrals in this collection, but the main story here wasn’t color. It was a Japanese obi style of draping that suited the model’s slim frames beautifully. Bunched sleeves also enhanced this new silhouette. This collection was a stretch for the Miu Miu brand, but in a tone that’s ultimately familiar.
