Sonia Rykiel Spring 2012
Nathalie Rykiel and new creative director, April Crichton, offered up a sunny, slim-fitting sportswear series for Sonia Rykiel’s Spring/Summer 2012 show. A cheerful schoolbus yellow was spray painted along the ground, serving as the runway and backdrop to this brilliantly-hued collection.
The simpler looks, like tight sweaters and low-slung plissé skirts, were bedecked by a thick black racing stripe – which proved that Sonia Rykiel was not abandoning sporty, gamine daywear anytime soon. Oversized suits in pinstripes, solids and eyelet captured the menswear vibe for Spring/Summer perfectly. The experiment with geometric abstraction resulted in neo-argyle that will be a surefire favorite for next season. The last few looks are best described as floaty, Technicolor dream dresses in happy shades of fuchsia, blood orange, tangerine, and soft lemon. A colorful win for Rykiel and new right-hand woman Crichton indeed.
