Despite what must have taken a tremendous amount of effort in execution – note the four custom-made escalators, a slick and shiny yellow-and-white checkered runway, and the fact that this was Marc Jacob’s third collection to show in a month – the Louis Vuitton collection at Paris Fashion Week this season came off as completely effortless. So effortless, in fact, that the show wrapped in a mere six minutes. With models sent down the runway in pairs in nearly matching ensembles, the intense vibrancy of this collection literally multiplied. For Spring/Summer 2013, Jacobs is feeling ultra-modern cubism, with tile arrangements and checkered squares adorning nearly every look. It has the feel of the more decadent and experimental side of 60s fashion, the kind of clothes that belong in Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up. Though this seems to suggest a London element to the presentation, Marc Jacobs kept it iconically Vuitton, and therefore iconically Parisian, by keeping his cuts classic, lean, and instantly wearable. There was no fuss to the crisp execution of his ideas, and, after bagging a third triumphant collection at Spring/Summer 2013, it’s clear that Jacobs’ vision is consistent.
