VIDEO: Anne Valerie Hash FW11

by Grace Gordon

The casual grace of Anne Valerie Hash’s fall/winter 2011 show is due in large part to her impeccable tailoring skills. With an emphasis on a more voluminous silhouette, it may be easy to get lost in the layers, but her sense of restraint came to the rescue. The drape and languid hang of the outerwear and blouses in this collection stand out, as it is their cool and natural appearance that appeals to the eye.

While Hash’s latest offering was similar in shape to her spring show, it differed in mood. This collection was more introspective and mature. Muted hues of dusty pink, gold, green and silver were tempered by silk fabrics which gave them shine and movement. The clothing looked organic, like the pleats and folds came into being after the fabric was left to fall where it may and then pinned in place. Paired with chunky platforms, dark makeup and sideswept hair, this collection of soft, voluminous pieces radiates modernity.
