Best of Paris Fashion Week

VIDEO: Isabel Marant FW11

by Grace Gordon

There are two types of “Sundance Kids” that would deeply appreciate the latest Isabel Marant collection: the Western bank robber played by Robert Redford in the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and the stylish ones who attend the eponymous film festival in Park City, Utah every year. Marant’s show was filled with Western and Native American inspired pieces, perfectly fitting for the social set that attends film and music festivals.

Working from a dominant palette of blue and cream, Marant shows basics with a twist. Jeans, sweaters, and dresses are all given an upgrade, and came enhanced by fringe, Navajo print, and big fur. This casual collection shows some fantastic menswear options especially early in the show. Slouchy-cool denim pairings meet chambray shirts and slick vests for that perfect home-on-the-range look. Marant will keep you warm this winter in big shearling skin coats, and lambs wool jackets that offer a bigger silhouette and lots of insulation. The best single item in the show, however, were the dramatic fringy wedge boots shown with every look. They were wonderful, and many models backstage were tempted to take them straight home.
