Chanel Maps Out the Glittering Cosmos with Its 1932 High Jewelry Collection
Coco Chanel's celestial vision shines in the Chanel 1932 High Jewelry collection, a radiant tribute to her Bijoux de Diamants masterpiece.
The one thing about Madame Coco Chanel that we can all agree on is that she was an absolute creative genius whose vision was so ahead of its time that most of her designs have evolved into timeless wardrobe fixtures. Almost a century ago — 90 years ago to be precise — Coco Chanel presented her first and only high jewelry collection, Bijoux de Diamants, demonstrating her unparalleled imagination. Mapping out the shimmering cosmos in the form of scintillating clusters of diamonds, she carefully placed precious stones to outline celestial bodies like the sun, moon, stars, and even comets.
Coco Chanel’s historic Bijoux de Diamants collection has inspired the brand’s latest High Jewelry collection — aptly titled 1932 — in honor of the brand’s first high-jewelry line. Patrice Leguéreau, Director of the Chanel Fine Jewelry Creation Studio, builds on the original concept of heavenly bodies, maintaining the purity of the lines and the freedom of the movement from the celebrated original collection.
“I wanted to return to the essence of 1932 and to harmonize the message around three symbols: the comet, the moon, and the sun. Each heavenly body shines with its own light,” explains Leguéreau.
The Chanel 1932 High Jewelry collection takes the wearer on a mythical journey through space and time, offering glimpses at the celestial bodies in motion. Like heavenly bodies floating in space, the diamond-encrusted Chanel 1932 pieces are designed as innovative living jewelry that represents an osmotic relationship with the constantly shifting rhythms of the wearer’s body.
To capture the opulence of the Chanel 1932 High Jewelry collection, Savoir Flair created a captivating editorial film where the sparkling bijoux was shot against a noir backdrop evoking a feeling of the night sky. Here, in Savoir Flair’s fascinating universe, the magnificent jewels levitate in space, emulating the divine bodies that inspired their creation. The camera, in constant motion, offers us glimpses from a multitude of angles as the model poses in astonishing pieces from the collection.
