For many seasons, Elie Saab’s ready-to-wear collections frothed and churned with elaborate gowns, but in recent seasons he has taken another approach toward the season with looks that were more easeful and more ready to wear. Case in point: at Elie Saab Fall/Winter 2023 there were kimono robes worn over jumpsuits, puffer jackets, and crisp little suits. Naturally, as a couturier, even Saab’s restrained offerings bore his signature hallmark embellishments and embroideries, applied with a light hand.

Lots of wearable separates appeared and ran the gamut from cream-colored looks with cutouts and jet-black beaded numbers to cornflower blue suits with contrast trim. But there was drama too, and plenty of it. A gorgeous maroon cape swept the ground, followed by a flourish of gauzy dresses with wraparound accents in the same color.

Even Saab’s restrained offerings bore his signature hallmark embellishments.

There was a chartreuse gown rimmed in ruffles and dresses with crinkled fans wrapping the body. Elegant beading, lacework, and confetti appliqués decorated the eveningwear finale, culminating in a sheer black strapless gown decorated in vivid blossoms. We’re already tallying up our red carpet-expectations for this collection. Anne Hathaway in Look 50 when?
