When you think of Elie Saab, the first thing that likely comes to mind is extravagant couture gowns. After all, he is a legendary couturier who has graced the world with some of the finest and most gorgeous dresses in history. However, the Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection really felt ready to wear, moreso than previous collections. It was straightforwardly and uncomplicatedly easeful and bore the feeling of freshness and rebirth that the spring season brings with it.

The show opened with a crocheted two-piece; a delicate bralette top and a matching skirt with a long slit up the front. It was coquettish and feminine, and most of all, easy to wear. Lace then appeared, climbing up miniskirts and longer gowns, which were followed by glittering disco ball dresses that were upholstered in floral embroidered vines – a contrast that worked surprisingly well. There were also crisp jumpsuits, pure white suits studded with golden grommets, ombré suits in sunrise hues, breezy toile-printed dresses, and a floral-printed variety as well. Another line-up of dresses featured an explosion of juicy, candy-colored paillettes. These confectionery pieces looked good enough to eat. There were also some solid-toned dresses and three-piece suits in the mix done in shades of salmon, royal purple, and citron that made a bold but subdued statement. The show closed with the uniform of the moment: a matching set of made of a white crocheted bralette, miniskirt, and slouchy cardigan. The “clean girl” obsessee on TikTok will clamor to wear this come next season.
